Sheltering Emergency Response in the South

Following Hurricane Matthew, World Concern is implementing a rapid response with a long-term view. This includes emergency shelter and hygiene activities, which will lay the groundwork for community-based, disaster-risk-reduction activities in the recovery period. World Concern will distribute shelter-fixing kits to complement the plastic sheeting distribution, train households on techniques for safe shelter construction using these materials, and mobilize volunteers to support rebuilding. In response to the increased threat posed by cholera and other waterborne diseases in temporary living environments, World Concern will collaborate with partners in health and water/sanitation and hygiene (WASH) to conduct a door-to-door hygiene awareness campaign.
